Definition

This is a full-time, professional position within the City’s Public Works Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for aiding in carrying out the City’s mission and objectives and will perform a variety of tasks, working in all phases of assigned projects from inception through completion by coordinating multiple projects, engaging in public affairs associated with projects, communicating with project stakeholders and meeting all objectives.

Examples of Work

  • Review and provide comments on plan sheets, plats, and other documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable standards and codes; perform engineering calculations; research information; and write reports on findings.
  • Conduct field inspections; evaluate conditions of construction; enforce all construction codes and regulations; generate reports on findings; recommend field changes to City Engineer; approve or deny sites.
  • Conduct Pre-Construction Meetings for new commercial and residential development project, utility improvement projects, and any other applicable projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs), Levee Improvement Districts (LIDs), third party engineers, and other personnel throughout the plan review and construction process.
  • Assist in managing, maintaining, and improving the City’s membership in the National Flood Insurance Program and the Community Rating System.
  • Assist in developing and implementing watershed master drainage plans and projects, facility, and utility plans and projects, and other flood mitigation efforts.
  • Manage consultants, contractors, and others involved during the planning, preliminary design, design development bidding, permitting, construction, final occupancy, project closeout, and warranty phase of the City’s Public Safety, Drainage, Transportation, Parks, City Facilities, Water and Wastewater capital and related projects.
  • Performs recordkeeping activities to maintain filing system, reports and documentation for the Floodplain Management Program and the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
  • Assist in drainage and floodplain management operations; making hydrologic and hydraulic determinations; coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies such as FEMA, emergency management coordinators, the USGS and National Weather Service; and managing water resource, drainage, and wastewater projects as assigned.
  • Manage and advise Construction Inspection staff regarding development and utility-ROW projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required and with zero (0) to two (2) years related experience in construction project management, community planning, project development, or closely related field. Engineer-in-Training certificate preferred or must be able to obtain within one (1) year.
