Definition
The Sign Technician II is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs and signals. This includes working with a variety of materials, such as metal, wood, and plastic. The Sign Technician must be able to read and understand technical drawings and specifications. They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Examples of Work
- Assists in the field with sign installation, barricade completion and establishing project requirements
- Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e., flooding, ice storm, etc.)
- Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance
- Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials
- Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures
- Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.)
Education, Experience, or Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited educational institution
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Ability to document activities both written and electronic; utilize work order management system
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow all safety procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills.
