CLASS CONCEPT: GENERAL PURPOSE Assist the Park Operations Supervisor with a variety of administrative, supervisory and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, parks, open spaces, sports fields, trails, landscaping, irrigation, arboriculture, project management, and recreation structures as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Parks Operations Supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises full-time, part-time, temporary employees, community service, and volunteers as required and in the absence of the Park Operations Supervisor.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed. Assists in the preparation of annual budgets relating to various operational programs and Capital Improvement Program projects and monitor expenditures. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Issues written and oral instructions to staff; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Lays out daily work schedules and assigns tasks to appropriate individuals, crews or combination of crews, and coordinates the completion of the same. Assist in developing and maintaining a turf and open space maintenance management system. Develops maintenance and operating procedures and methods within limits of departmental policies and procedures. Provides necessary supervision, direction, and assistance to crews at work sites. Enforces policies, regulations, and safety and health standards. Determines, calculates and secures the appropriate materials and supplies for a specific project. Oversees and assists in the planting, pruning, watering and fertilizing of landscaping plants, flowers, shrubs, hedges and trees on city property, parks, right of ways, and in landscaping beds. Sprays to control disease and pests where required. Administer and supervise municipal mowing contracts managed by the Parks and Recreation Department. Coordinates the usage and maintenance schedules of grounds, fields and facilities.Assists in projecting needs for equipment, materials and supplies. Assists in the preparation of specifications, estimates, and bids for machinery, equipment, and contractor services. Prepares and maintains daily, monthly, and annual reports and records as assigned. Assists with the oversight of the mowing and maintenance of parks, landscaping beds, and open space areas such as sports fields; mows weeds; oversees and assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems and the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Assists with the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of grounds and open spaces.Operates tractors, mowers, stump grinders, welders, trucks, front end loaders, tree spade, power washers, and other listed equipment as needed. Assists in the construction oversight of new open space facilities, including cleaning, grading, drainage, and foundation work. PERIPHERAL DUTIES Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. Serves as a member of the Emergency Operations Team. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, special events, and prepares facilities for park and recreation program use. Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Pickup truck; lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, aerifier, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; swimming pool equipment including chlorination system pumps, boiler, valves, filtration devices, gauges, etc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
