Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, open spaces, aquatics facilities, parks and recreation systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a Facility Services Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May act as a lead worker for Part-time labors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains and assists with the installation and repair of park lights, ball field lights, light control systems, and light scheduling.
Performs semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
Performs routine maintenance for city Facilities.
Clean, maintain and repair building fixtures and equipment including locks, windows, doors, carpet, venetian blinds, roof drains, shelving and systems furniture.
Repair plumbing fixtures, unclog drains and maintain plumbing systems.
Paint walls and/or equipment and make minor painting repairs; operate automotive equipment and hauling material; receive and store supplies.
Make field inspections and review work-in-progress; identify and resolve issues with outside contractors, referring to manager as needed.
Track and report on repair and maintenance activities; complete and maintain a variety of records.
Promote a positive City image by maintaining excellent internal and external customer relations.
Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.
Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
Keeps records of work completed.
Assist with any additional job-related tasks as instructed by the Facility Services Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
- Four years experience in repair and maintenance work, or
- Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- NIMS Certifications will be required for position.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Knowledge of report and record maintenance principles and procedures.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established City policies and procedures.
- Maybe be required to obtain certifications or training in specialized areas as needed and assigned by the Facility Services Supervisor
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Pickup truck and 15 passenger van; lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, airifier, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work, boiler, janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaner, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, various aquatic operation and maintenance equipment and dusting equipment.

The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
