Definition
The city of Missouri City is seeking an Accounting Technician II to join the Financial Services Department The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have a strong work ethic. The Accounting Technician will provide technical accounting support to the department in Accounts Payable in the Accounting Division. The Accounting Technician reports to the Accounting Manager.
Examples of Work
- Supports accounts payable operations by obtaining invoices, enters data, compiles reports, prints payment checks, matches checks with payment vouchers and invoices, mails checks, and maintains accounts payable files.
- Manages invoice process by researching and forwarding invoices to the relevant department contacts within the city.
- Tracks invoices by documenting dates and actions taken, applies discounts for early payments.
- Keeps track of unclear checks, processes stale checks, generates unclaimed property records, and files yearly report.
- Conducts technical administrative accounting, compliance reviews, and audits for fiscal records in accordance with standards and regulatory requirements.
- Performs monthly comparative statistical analysis of financial numbers, calculates financial ratios, and follows up with variances.
- Processes one-time cash disbursement batches to record invoices paid by ACHs and wires.
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports including form 1099.
- Prepares monthly transparency reports and reconciles AP accounts to invoice listings.
- Prepares special reports for management, including: audit schedules and public information requests.
- Responds to customer and vendor inquiries, resolves discrepancies, and communicates effectively across departments.
- Supports external audit processes alongside the Assistant Director, providing year-end financial statistics.
- Documents and maintains Accounts Payable related policies and procedures.
- Completes projects related to the department as assigned, such as directing calls, providing requested information, and assisting with special tasks; perform additional related duties as needed.
- Subject to 24-hour recall.
Education, Experience, or Certification
- An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
- Advance in Microsoft Excel.
