DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Sign Installation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and removing traffic signs throughout the City of Houston, including in high-traffic areas. This position requires setting up and remove Traffic Control devices (cones, barricades, signage, etc.) for special events or emergency situations, investigate and respond to citizen traffic concerns and service requests and utilizing digital systems to manage work orders such as computer systems and Samsung tablets. Communicate with team members, supervisors, and other city departments to ensure safe and efficient operations and working after regular hours, on weekends, or during emergencies as required, while adhering to all safety protocols and city regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires stooping, bending and/orliftingofitemsupto80poundswithoccasionalperiods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma or a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the construction equipment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of experience performing manual and field work with power tools or equipment are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. May be required to have a valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) based on the type of equipment the position is assigned to operate.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
