This position falls under the Civil Service's adopted step pay matrix.
This is a full-time (Executive/Senior Level Officials and Managers) position with the City's Police Department (MCPD). An individual in this position will be responsible for providing senior level supervision and administrative support as the head of their assigned division. Reporting relationship: Assistant Police Chief.
Examples of Work
- Perform administrative duties by conducting media interviews and communicating with personnel and the public; researching operational, legal and administrative issues; write position papers, briefs and memos; and prepare, maintain, compile and disseminate division/department reports;
- Manage division personnel; conduct and review division employee performance reviews; coordinate employees training needs; mentor, coach and guide the development of employees; manage, recommend and carry-out the proper discipline of employees; and meet with assigned personnel individually or as a group;
- Develop and manage the division budget; calculate the costs associated with identified needs; complete budget forms for submission to the Chief of Police; complete requisition forms; use purchasing card; approve subordinate purchases; monitor expenditures; and apply for and manage organizational grants;
- Manage operational issues by serving as watch commander; identify and resolve operational challenges and enhance division efficiency and effectiveness; and assume the command of the department in the absence of the Assistant Police Chief or Police Chief, as directed;
- Handle human resource needs by assisting with the hiring process for the division; assist with the promotional process for the division; resolve conflicts in the work place; address discipline issues through policies and procedures; and recognize and promote the good performance;
- Perform other related duties as assigned;
- Subject to 24 hour recall.
Education, Experience, or Certification
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate, two years of continuous service as a Missouri City Police Department Lieutenant and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Certification required.
Supplemental Information
To be eligible to apply, candidate must be a current Police Lieutenant in the Missouri City Police Department.
