Summary

The Staff Scientist will play a critical role in advancing innovative research in the field of meningioma genomics, working within a dynamic and collaborative laboratory environment. This position involves overseeing laboratory operations, managing the biobank database, and ensuring proper documentation and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, the Staff Scientist will contribute to project management by planning and assisting with research timelines, as well as supervising and training lab personnel. Ideal candidates are proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that impact patient care and scientific understanding.

Job Duties

Laboratory Management

  • Maintain efficient lab functioning to facilitate research
    • Develop and enforce standardized procedures for all laboratory activities to maintain consistency
    • Identify and order needed lab supplies
    • Maintain stock solutions
    • Participate in Zoghbi Lab Operations to a limited extent
  • Management of the Biobank database, including tissue collection, storage, database updates, and cell culture
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping
    • Maintain detailed records of all laboratory operations, including procedures, equipment status, and staff training


Project Management

  • Plan, organize, perform and assist with research projects within the laboratory, including timelines
  • Report results on a regular basis


Personnel Management

  • Supervise lab staff, providing training, assigning tasks, and addressing any concerns related to personnel.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling mice or other rodents
  • Experience with basic molecular biology, tissue and cell culture
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office including use of Microsoft Access) to document, enter, analyze and present data
  • Experience with R or other programming language
