Summary

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Scoliosis at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is looking for a current med student or recent grad to fill our research coordinator position.


This is an opportunity to work side-by-side with TCH paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, physicians and researchers. This position will expand your knowledge and exposure to the field of paediatric orthopaedics and become involved in high-quality clinical and/or basic science research projects.


The research coordinator is guided through the research process from the development of a hypothesis to data collection, manuscript writing, and presentation at national and international orthopaedic conferences. The coordinator has the opportunity to work independently on projects of special interest to him/her or on one of the current institutionally approved studies and is encouraged to interact and collaborate with the department’s diversified faculty (each with his/her own area of special interest and expertise). Topics of focus include spine disorders, sports injuries, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal tumors, foot/ankle disorders, hip disorders, limb deficiency, and thoracic insufficiency.


Job Duties

  • Participate in research activities including:
    • Subject recruitment and eligibility confirmation
    • Informed consent process
    • Completion of case report forms and data clarification
    • IRB preparation and medical record abstraction

  • Assist with:
    • Manuscript preparation (writing, referencing, editing, basic medical illustration, statistical analysis, tables/charts, submission)
    • Literature reviews
    • Presentation materials (slides and posters)
    • Study database updates
    • Clinical and operative photography

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; preferred either in med school or recent graduate.
  • Have an interest in paediatric orthopaedics with vision/goal to become orthopedic surgeon.
  • Complete application with a cover letter and at least 1 letter of recommendation.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy in a MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ACCESS plus internet use.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects and meet timelines in a dynamic workplace environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills, as interaction all levels of staff and research subjects is required.
  • Research experience or demonstration of research interest is required.
