Location:
Science - Master's degree required.
- At least five (5) years of successful teaching in middle and/or high school science.
- Campus or district leadership experience, preferred.
- Certified in State Appraisal System (T-TESS), preferred.
- English as a Second Language certification, preferred.
- Gifted and Talented certification, preferred.
- Valid Texas education certificate in teaching required.
Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law. - Ability to lead, and supervise a 6-12 science instructional program to achieve the district’s mission, vision, and goals
- Ability to plan a comprehensive and integrated professional development program for secondary science which supports the direction of the district
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to implement and interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Ability to train and support principals and teachers in interpreting and analyzing data to impact teaching practices and student achievement
- Ability to work with the Leads and instructional specialists with coaching techniques to support teaching and learning
- Organize, implement, and supervise all aspects of the 6-12 science instructional program to ensure each student meets and exceeds instructional goals of the district.
- Assist in improvement of the instructional program through regular cycles of classroom observation, feedback, demonstration, and staff training, in conjunction with other departments
- Utilize multiple data sources and continuous quality improvement efforts to drive program area decisions and support related to curriculum and instruction
- Identify and evaluate current research, content knowledge, and trends in science and communicate to internal and external audiences as appropriate.
- Manage partnerships with professional learning providers that result in high-quality training for teachers and principals.
- Establish clear outcomes to measure the success of training provided by professional learning providers.
- Lead a process for evaluating, selecting, and adjusting instructional resources and curriculum guides to support instruction of the science TEKS
- Provide timely and quality service to principals and teachers to ensure the district curricula is implemented with fidelity.
- Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of pre-service and in-service training programs for science personnel.
- Communicate district curriculum, instructional practices, district accomplishments, and goals to all stakeholders
- Plan and lead in collaboration with principals and departments to develop clear and coherent support for schools that strategically aligns to the districts’ mission, vision, and goals.
- Encourage and promote parental and community involvement in the educational process.
- Actively seek and utilize evaluative feedback with appropriate administrative staff, subordinates and immediate supervisor regarding job performance.
- Cultivate partnerships with local, state, and national leaders in the field (including business and community representatives, institutions of higher education, etc.) to ensure the continued growth of the department.
- Establish and maintain an environment which is conducive to positive staff morale and directed towards achievement of the district’s mission, values, and goals.
- Project a positive image to the community.
- Monitor curriculum updates from TEA and communicate to internal and external audiences as appropriate.
- Train, support, supervise, and evaluate personnel under the direction of the Director of Science K-12
- Manage and direct the department’s annual budget in a fiscally responsible manner that supports the initiatives, priorities and goals of the department, division, and district.
- Review and propose policies and procedures related to the science program.
- Assist Human Resources with recruitment, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
