Position Title: Consultation & Reference Lab Technician III, Rare Donor Program (RDP)
Shift: Mon - Fri, 4 pm - 12 am

As a Technician in our Consultation and Reference Lab, you’ll play a vital role in preparing specialized blood components and conducting tests for patients and donors, supporting over 170 hospitals and healthcare partners across the Greater Gulf Coast. In this role, you’ll:
Evaluate and process special blood component requests following established guidelines.
Communicate with external customers regarding rare blood needs, donor coordination, and ARDP cases.
Record, place, and fulfill orders for antigen-negative red blood cells in the BECS system.
Monitor inventory of rare donor antigen-typed red blood cells.
Track and maintain inventory levels of reagents and laboratory supplies.
Prepare washed and deglycerolized red blood cells according to protocols.
Freeze and store rare red blood cells for long-term preservation.
Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Prepare reagents used in blood processing and testing.
Demonstrate competency in all core functions of the RDP Tech III role.
Assist with compiling statistical reports and maintaining billing data.
Address and help resolve internal and external billing inquiries.
Scan and archive documents using the Imaging Application.
Receive specimens and test orders in the Transfusion Management System.
Issue and return blood products in the Transfusion Management System.
Participate in the training and onboarding of new department staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned; responsibilities may be modified at management’s discretion.
We need someone who:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of one year of relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF DEGREE MUST BE PROVIDED AND KEPT IN PERSONNEL FILE.
