Description

Episcopal High School is seeking a teacher who is well versed in any of the core required courses we offer: biology, chemistry, and/or physics. The ability to teach courses in several areas, including elective offerings such as anatomy and physiology, engineering, geology, marine biology, astronomy, forensic science and environmental science, is highly desirable. As science educators, we value collaboration and exploration, expressing this through team alignment, resource sharing, creative approaches to assigned work, curricular rigor, and professional development that enhances pedagogy, content, and scientific acumen. A qualified applicant would be a blend of team player and outspoken innovator, ready to provide instruction, assistance, and support to students with a range of abilities and interests. The ability to teach Physics is preferred.

Faculty at Episcopal High School report to their respective department chair for guidance, support, and accountability in teaching. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the schools Mission & Guiding Principles as well as the schools DCI Statement & Priorities through appropriate words and actions.
  • Design, prepare, and implement lessons, activities, and resources that facilitate active and effective learning.
  • Develop, administer, and provide feedback on various types of assessments that are timely and appropriate for achieving course objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for learning.
  • Develop and maintain strong rapport with students and provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Incorporate technology effectively and regularly.
  • Keep parents, advisors, and school leaders informed of student progress.
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students and fulfill all required elements of the Advisory Program.
  • Lead by example in Daily Chapel, including Family Chapel.
  • Attend and engage actively in department meetings and other required school events.
  • Share resources, assist, and collaborate with fellow faculty.
  • Fulfill other elements of the schools Essential Expectations and Standards of Excellence in Teaching.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree, with an advanced degree preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff, parents, and students.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to supervise and manage multiple functions and activities.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Generally work in standard office conditions and climate.
  • Ability to work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer or be standing for extended periods of time.
