JOB TITLE: Elementary School Assistant Principal
REPORTS TO: Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PAY GRADE: AI 4
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Elementary School Assistant Principal will be responsible for the overall administration of instructional
program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
The Elementary School Assistant Principal must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to
championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.
QUALIFICATONS:
Required:
- Master’s degree from an accredited College or University
- Valid Texas Assistant Principal or other administrative certification
- Three years’ experience as a classroom teacher
Preferred:
- Three years’ experience as a campus administrator
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Thorough understanding of school operations
- Strong Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coordinate campus support operations
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
- Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
Personnel Management
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teachers’ appraisal system.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Supervise operations in Associate Principal and Principal’s absence
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
Student Management
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide.
Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to
interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
