Job Summary

Sr FinOps Engineer in the FinOps team will be responsible for cost and operational effectiveness in Sysco’s Global Cloud and IT Infrastructure by engaging with business and engineering teams to help transform the way they utilize hybrid cloud and IT services, manage, and optimize spending. This role will be in direct contact with cross-functional teams to implement cloud cost management strategies and best practices for adoption and cost savings techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate and provide recommendations on how teams can optimize their usage of AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud and SaaS services, provide cost-related insights, metrics, and measure KPIs to track progress and closely working with stakeholders to ensure ongoing success.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to help implement hybrid cloud cost management strategies and best practices for adoption and cost savings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on FinOps projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and being accountable for the outcome of the project. Assist stakeholders in identifying cost saving opportunities and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Research, development, implement, troubleshoot, and create strategies for cloud cost optimization and provide governance. Analyze variance between actual spending and budgeted amounts and provide insights and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the business planning team to ensure accurate financial forecast and continuously explore new tools and technologies that can enhance FinOps capabilities.
  • Develop relevant automation, documentation, processes, and standardization of FinOps process and establish cost conscious culture within development teams.
  • Drive financial efficiency and transparency across Sysco’s Hybrid Cloud platforms, directly contributing to Sysco’s growth and sustainability. Sr. FinOps Engineer continue to contribute to Sysco’s Global FinOps Adoption focusing on rate and workload optimization, dashboarding, and documentation. Aim to elevate the FinOps culture within the organization, creating KPIs to enable benchmarking and assisting teams with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Implementing financial monitoring to detect anomalies, creating reports as required by both executive leadership and finance teams

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years related work experience in a technical field

Education Preferred:

Certification in FinOps

Experience Required:

5 years in a related IT capacity Dynamic scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, or Groovy or 5 years Linux or other Unix systems

Experience Preferred:

Experience with FinOps Tools: Familiarity with cloud cost management tools Turbonomics, Wiz, Datadog, Azure Advisor, Google Cost Advisor, AWS Quick Sight CUR dashboards, FOCUS, Snowflake etc.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:

FinOps certification, Cloud Certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Solution Architect Associate

Technical Skills and Abilities

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide explanation and application of public, private cloud and cost models, basic FinOps vocabulary, concepts, processes, basic financial and accounting knowledge
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and experience – proficiency with sophisticated formulas, pivot tables, automation, and complex reporting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and metrics
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills Understanding of cloud economics and pricing models
  • Effective communication skills with master of presenting ideas in a clear, concise manner to technical and non-technical audiences Ability to write clear technical FinOps process for use by stakeholders
  • Expert understanding of cloud infrastructure, AWS, Azure and GCP Cost Explorer, best practices, governance, monitoring, alerting, automation, and FinOps framework
  • Experience working with large-scale cloud systems, cloud architecture patterns, AWS saving plans and their cost implications
  • Experience working with Parking tool to park AWS instances when not in use to eliminate waste and reduce idling time Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting and forecasting
