Description
The Geoscience manager will be the head of the geoscience department and be a proven technical leader with deep experience drilling, completing, and extracting maximum value from unconventional wells. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for the following:
- Being a key member of the leadership team, actively working to achieve the corporate goals, enhancing the culture and supporting the growth strategy.
- Providing technical and business leadership to the geoscience function and be responsible and accountable for all G&G activities. This includes crafting an exploitation strategy that encompasses milestones, timetables, budgets, processes and technology in order to create a complementary, adaptable, risk and value adding balanced program.
- Leading the implementation of the approved strategy consistent with the Company’s financial investment plan. This includes creating and maintaining a risked portfolio of potential opportunities, key performance indicators and a process for measuring and reporting on performance.
- Building and continuously evaluating a high quality, high performing organization including developing and implementing appropriate measurements and personal development plans to continuously improve the overall organization and to provide for appropriate succession planning.
- Keeping current with and implementing technologies that cost effectively improve the overall geology & geophysics effort in their targeted region.
- Conducting regular post-audits of programs to ensure business results as well as technical results are in line with expectations; assessing and taking corrective action as appropriate.
- Developing and maintaining contacts with other companies and assessing their potential as partners. Ensuring that the alliances built are done in accordance with the strategy and the philosophies of the Company.
- Maintaining a strong industry presence and taking an active role in appropriate professional activities, functions and organizations.
- Keeping key management informed of internal and external issues having real or potential impact on the company’s strategies and program results including industry conditions, activities, and trends.
An undergraduate degree in Geology or Geophysics is required with an advanced degree highly preferable with 15+ years of experience and at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Passion for Geosciences – The new geoscience leader must be driven and someone who, as our client describes, is “one with the rock” with a track record of successful economic outcomes. While her/his passion should be inspirational to others, it should not trump sound commercial judgement.
- Team and Relationship Building - The successful candidate will be a strong developer of people, possess the know how to motivate and inspire teams, and bring people together for a common purpose. She/he must be able to establish solid working relationships with other leaders in the organization and work effectively with colleagues in other functions such as drilling and completions, reservoir engineering, production engineering, and business development.
- Strong Technical Expertise – As a technical leader, the new Head of Geoscience will be responsible for the strategic development of existing assets and have significant knowledge and experience drilling and completing unconventional wells which lead to positive economic results.
