Job Purpose
The role of a Technologist III is to support and direct activities in one or more of the following areas:
- Developing new products and technologies
- Effectively report results, propose conclusions, and recommendations within agreed timescales using appropriate methods
- Developing a fundamental understanding of key coating attributes
- Testing/support of existing products, processes, and coating systems
Job Responsibilities
- Delivers testing support for existing Yacht Anti-fouling technologies & products.
- Manages effective planning and day-to-day requirements for assigned projects and support activities.
- Carries out experiments for new product development and product modifications with a basic understanding of external customer requirements.
- Uses best practice/past solutions to design, develop, carry out, evaluate & interpret experiments for review with the line manager.
- Contributes to test method development as needed, to better understand and evaluate coating properties and performance.
- Effectively collates and reports results and proposes conclusions and recommendations within agreed timescales using appropriate methods. Explains functional/technical concepts in a way that the technical team understands their value.
- Plans, conducts, and evaluates trials (e.g., application, production processes, equipment) as required.
- Effective communication and liaison with other functions such as Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, QC & Manufacturing.
- Carries out laboratory work to support the line manager in vendor approval projects.
- Prepares formulation/technology transfer packages, e.g., for the production environment as required.
- Identifies improvement needs and suggests improvement activities/projects. Supports roll-out of improvement solutions.
- Effective communication and liaison with key influencers, e.g., within the team, MPY RD&I, Technology Team, PSRA, Intellectual Property, other functions and external suppliers
- Maintains a safe working environment e.g., member of 5S team, supports H&S engagement audits, supports BBS processes
Level of Autonomy
- May work independently as an individual contributor and may coordinate work programmer of Technicians, e.g., plans, prioritizes, and conducts activities with some input from the manager.
- Runs own project/work activities with occasional input from manager or senior colleague.
Job Requirements
- Technical education in a relevant field, e.g., chemistry, chemical technology, environmental, math, statistics, data science, etc.
- Typically 2-4 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree
Example
- Demonstrates effective use of tools to manage and communicate multiple activities/projects e.g., Gantt charts. Is able to explain rationale behind plan(s), identify rate-determining steps & when contingency planning may be required
- Understands priorities when managing multiple activities/projects simultaneously by analyzing importance, relevance, and urgency. For example, is able to effectively communicate impact/value to business (verbal &/or written)
- Results from lab work were not as expected. Can effectively analyze data and patterns to root cause. Generates next steps for discussion with the line manager before progressing
- Actively develops and sustains a professional network to support their development and effective progression of their day-to-day activities. Is able to demonstrate use of others expertise to facilitate efficient delivery, e.g., takes initiative/proactively seeks out training from experts to support their day-to-day activities.
- Identifies improvement needs and suggests improvement activities/projects to resolve major issues/concerns within their day-to-day activities e.g., effectively communicates benefits & potential concerns for the improvement, develops and prioritizes options to discuss with the line manager
Total Compensation
- The salary range for these skills is: $75,000 to $83,000 + 5% annual bonus.
