Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Risk Analyst to oversee trading risk operations within our oil trading division. The ideal candidate is a proven energy professional with expertise in trading operations, risk management, and financial analysis, particularly within the crude oil sector or refined products. This role requires experience in RightAngle to ensure accurate trade capture, position reconciliation, and system optimization. Reporting to the Manager of Trading Risk responsible for validating trading positions, managing risk controls, and driving operational efficiency while collaborating seamlessly with traders, operators, IT, and finance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Trading Risk Oversight: Validation and reconciliation of daily trading positions and P&L, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with internal risk controls.
- RightAngle Expertise: Utilize RightAngle to manage deal entry, physical position balancing, inventory monitoring, and system troubleshooting; partner with IT to resolve issues and implement process improvements.
- Risk Management: Analyze and report trading exposures, oversee flat price hedges, and provide actionable insights to mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with traders, operators, and supply coordinators to align trade capture with agreements, schedules, and intercompany settlement processes.
- Month-End Processes: Assist with end-of-month activities, including inventory estimates, tariff and freight cost validation, working capital analysis, and affiliate settlement reconciliations.
- System & Process Optimization: Identify and implement enhancements to RightAngle and related systems, collaborating with IT and commercial teams to streamline workflows and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with the delivery of precise valuations, P&L commentary, and variance analyses to support Front Office and Finance teams, ensuring alignment with accounting systems like SAP.
- Ad-Hoc Support: Provide strategic guidance and analytical support for settlements, forecasting, and other commodities as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in energy trading, risk management, or product control, with a background in gas, crude oil or refined product operations.
- RightAngle Proficiency: Experience with RightAngle is required, including deal entry, position reconciliation, scheduling, and system testing.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in Excel and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus.
- Analytical Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail, with demonstrated success in analyzing trading positions, P&L drivers, and financial variances.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Soft Skills: Quick learner, team player, and strategic thinker with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
