Job Summary:

The Credit Specialist is responsible for evaluating customer creditworthiness, managing credit limits, processing credit applications, and supporting the company’s risk management efforts. This role involves reviewing financial data, making recommendations on credit approvals, and collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure timely collections and minimize bad debt exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze credit applications and financial statements to determine credit limits and terms.
  • Perform credit checks using financial databases, trade references, and credit reporting agencies (e.g., Experian, D&B, CreditSafe).
  • Monitor customer accounts and payment behaviors to identify potential credit risks.
  • Approve or recommend adjustments to credit limits based on customer performance and risk assessment.
  • Work with the sales team to resolve billing and collection issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of credit decisions, limits, and correspondence.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers and internal departments (Sales, Customer Service).
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policies and procedures.
  • Prepare regular credit risk reports and support audits as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in credit analysis, accounts receivable, or a similar finance role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SyteLine).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in [industry, e.g., manufacturing, retail, or financial services].
  • Knowledge of credit scoring models and risk analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance related to credit and collections (e.g., FCRA, SOX).
