Summary:
The Vice President of Finance and Accounting provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operations across the restaurant portfolio. This role is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and modeling, cash flow management, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will have hospitality and/or retail experience, strong financial acumen, and a hands-on leadership style suited to a fast-paced, employee and customer-centric business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead all financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning processes.
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic business decisions, capital planning, and growth initiatives.
- Support expansion, acquisitions, or divestitures through due diligence and financial modeling.
Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including AR/AP, general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and tax compliance.
- Ensure accurate, timely financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annually) in accordance with GAAP or IFRS.
- Communicate financial information regularly to key stakeholders including lenders and partners.
- Manage internal and external audits and ensure regulatory compliance (local, state, federal).
Operational Finance
- Analyze, implement and monitor internal controls and review processes to safeguard assets, improve corporate and business-wide efficiency, and optimize profitability.
- Lead cost control and margin improvement initiatives across restaurant portfolio and corporate office
- Provide tools, training, and oversight to enhance financial performance.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to meet operational needs and investment goals.
- Oversee banking relationships and negotiate favorable terms on transactions as needed
Technology & Systems
- Evaluate, implement, and maintain financial systems (e.g., POS integrations, reporting dashboards).
- Drive automation and digital transformation in accounting and finance workflows.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Assess department needs and identify areas for improvements in efficiency and process.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Should have a high command of Excel
- Knowledge of Restaurant Software of systems like Restaurant 365
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Flexible and self-directed worker with ability to stay focused and meet goals, while working independently.
- Detail oriented and efficient.
- Willing to contribute effort to all aspects of restaurant operation when needed, even if not financial department oriented.
- Willingness to work as an overall team member to help ensure continued growth and success of the company.
- Proficiency in hospitality accounting systems (e.g., R365, Compete, Oracle, or similar).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA strongly preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience in hospitality, retail, or multi-unit operations.
- Deep knowledge restaurant financial operations, including revenue recognition, cost controls, and labor models.
