About the Tax Assessor-Collector
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including:
- Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
- Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees.
- Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
- Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county’s needs.
Under general supervision of the Imaging Team Manager, the Voter Imaging Deputy Specialist aids in preparing and scanning documents, organizing batches for processing, boxing completed applications and managing incoming calls for the Harris County Tax Office. This role helps the team meet production goals and deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open and inspect all incoming voter registration mail for completeness and accuracy.
- Remove staples, paper clips, and other obstructions to prepare documents for scanning.
- Date-stamp each document and apply tracking numbers for record-keeping.
- Sort mail into designated categories: In-County, Out-of-County, and Problem applications.
- Scan and image prepared documents into the voter registration system, ensuring clarity and proper indexing.
- Generate and print voter registration notices, including confirmations and updates.
- Prepare notices for mailing by folding, inserting into envelopes and applying postage.
- Organize completed documents into batches and box them for secure storage.
- Label boxes accurately and maintain compliance with retention schedules.
- Provide accurate election information to the public, including precinct numbers, polling locations, Early Voting dates/hours/locations and Election Day details.
- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally, assisting voters with registration inquiries.
- Process telephone requests from voters accurately and document as required.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support voter registration operations.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution within the U.S.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in clerical or customer service in a high-paced environment.

General Information
Work Environment:
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting with adequate lighting, ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise levels.
- The position is subject to frequent interruptions and requires extensive work at a computer workstation.
Physical Demands:
- Minor physical effort may be required, which may involve periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, ability to lift up to 30 lbs. or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting).
- Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination).

Working Hours:
- Monday-Friday 7:45 am - 4:45 pm; subject to overtime and weekends
