Description:
Examples of relevant focus areas include: (1) immunoengineering approaches for cancer and autoimmune diseases, (2) antibody discovery and development, (3) cell-based therapies, and (4) immunomaterials (e.g., engineered nanoparticles) for delivery. Expertise in cancer immunology and immunoengineering would be particularly desirable because it will maximize synergistic opportunities for innovative research with other UH researchers and researchers from the nearby Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world with researchers working at the forefront of the life sciences.
The Department has 24 tenured and tenure-track faculty, modern research facilities, annual research expenditures exceeding $10 million, and a vibrant graduate program with more than 100 PhD students. The successful candidate will join a collegial group of research-oriented faculty working in a highly collaborative environment.
The Houston Metropolitan Area offers excellent quality of living and a vibrant arts and entertainment scene propelled by a growing economy. Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center and has a broad industrial base in Energy, Chemicals, Materials, Aeronautics, and Medical Technologies offering additional opportunities for collaborative research.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze complex experiments in the field of immunoengineering.
- Develop proposals to secure external funding to support research programs.
- Collaborate in the preparation of or lead research proposals to secure external funding
- Collaborate with other faculty members and supervise graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians working in research laboratories.
- Present research results at professional conferences and participate in department/college committees.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Biomolecular Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely-related discipline.
- At least two years of experience as postdoctoral associate in a research laboratory or relevant experience in industry.
- A strong record of scholarly productivity in the form of published research.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Information
This is a non-tenure track position. Initial appointment will be for one year and may be renewed based on a positive performance evaluation and availability of funds. The position is available effective immediately.
