JOB
This is a entry-level specialist, full-time position within the City’s Technology & Innovation Department. The GIS Specialist I performs professional-level geospatial work, including maintaining and enhancing the City’s enterprise GIS datasets, producing complex maps and spatial analysis, supporting system integrations, and managing GIS-related projects. This position collaborates closely with multiple City departments to support operational, planning, and strategic initiatives through accurate geospatial data and analysis.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform advanced spatial analysis and create GIS datasets, maps, reports, dashboards, and exhibits to support City projects and decision-making.Perform data collection, field assignments, and spatial analysis for engineering, planning, infrastructure, and public safety initiatives.Collect, process, and maintain GPS and mobile mapping data for City assets and other spatial datasets.Maintain utility, infrastructure, and land-based GIS data by acquiring source documents, updating records, checking topology and data integrity, and logging changes.Assess and fulfill internal and external GIS data requests; apply GIS principles to support efficient project management and strategic outcomes.Administer desktop GIS software, perform system updates, install service packs and patches, and provide user support for GIS applications, hardware, and databases.Manage GIS-related projects, ensuring proper resource allocation, timeline adherence, and successful delivery of project objectives.Assist all City departments with cartographic products, spatial data creation, analysis needs, and development of GIS-based solutions using quality control standards.Coordinate with departments to ensure documentation and workflows support accurate, up-to-date GIS data maintenance.Customize GIS applications, maintain departmental datasets, update City map books, and create AGOL/Portal maps and apps for internal and public use.EDUCATION& EXPERIENCE Operate and maintain specialized GIS equipment including plotters, GPS units, software, and related supplies.Perform other related duties as assigned.Subject to 24-hour recall.
