Position Summary: Under general direction of Building Official, this position is responsible for the electrical and HVAC inspections, both residential and commercial buildings, building sites, and other structures during construction and remodeling projects to ensure work is completed in compliance with all applicable codes, standards and regulations. Provides information to developers, builders, contractors and the public about building standards and codes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical/HVAC residential and commercial building inspections to ensure compliance with applicable local and state codes and ordinances.
- Review building plans, site plans, and zoning related applications to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
- Receive and respond to questions and concerns regarding building code compliance and city zoning ordinance compliance.
- Ensure City building codes and related ordinances are updated according to standard practices and state building code changes and serves as administrator of the Building Code and related ordinances.
- Stay up to date with modern construction methods and current building code standards.
- Provide inspection assistance to City Fire Marshall and City Health Inspector.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Other duties as assigned.
- Local and state building codes, health codes, and zoning ordinances; sound construction principles and practices; and standard office practices and procedures.
- Effectively read, interpret, and apply manuals, plans, and building codes; inspect and evaluate conditions of construction sites; apply safety standard to prevent hazards.
- Use mathematical calculations.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent and five years’ experience in the field or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Journeyman Electrician License or Master Electrician License required.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation, physical and drug screen.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.

The work environment requires that the employee exercise caution at all times and adheres to safety standards to avoid the risk of personal injury. The employee is exposed to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, chemicals, and bacteria. The employee is required to perform tedious, exacting work. The work environment is noisy and distracting.
