Join the Harris County Sheriff's Office Media Team!

Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for multimedia production? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments where your work makes a direct impact? The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is looking for a Multimedia Specialist to produce high-quality photo and video content that informs, engages, and connects with both internal and external audiences. Under the leadership of the Senior Policy and Communications Advisor, this role plays a key part in shaping our public messaging and outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visual Content Creation: Produce engaging multimedia content, including social media posts, videos, photos, newsletters, websites, and press releases.
  • Photo and Video Production: Capture compelling visuals, shoot and edit high-quality videos and photos, and develop creative scripts.
  • Content Planning and Execution: Develop, publish, and edit timely content that aligns with editorial calendars, current events, and agency priorities.
  • Brand Awareness and Reputation Management: Help elevate HCSO’s presence through strategic media content highlighting our mission and services.
  • Graphic and Motion Design: Create infographics, motion graphics, and digital assets for social media and public communication campaigns.
  • Creative Collaboration: Work alongside a dynamic team to brainstorm and develop impactful advertising and marketing materials.
  • Equipment and Tech Management: Maintain, evaluate, and research new equipment, software, and industry trends to enhance multimedia capabilities.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance: Handle sensitive information with discretion while adhering to departmental policies and regulations.
  • Video Editing and Distribution: Use non-linear editing software to refine projects and distribute content across digital, mobile, and social media platforms.
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field;
  • Five (5) years of journalism/communications/content experience, including photojournalism and news writing;
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in visual communications may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis
  • Must possess a valid Class C Driver's License and auto liability insurance

Skilled in:

  • Must be highly proficient in the English language, both verbally and in writing, with strong proofreading and editing skills and an eye for detail
  • Strong project and time management/organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be energetic, creative, and deadline-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload in a high-volume environment
  • Proficiency in industry-standard photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe
  • Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro)
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging content for various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, Nextdoor)
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling principles and best practices

Preferences

  • Bilingual – Spanish is preferred, not required

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands: This role is sedentary, however, the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds is necessary to lift files and/or boxes of files, documents, etc.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
