Description
The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for an Public Works Field Employee at the Public Works Department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for Public Works Field operations. This may include drainage, roadway, water, sewer, water well, and sewer plant areas of work. Tasks change daily so ability to adapt to immediate needs is a must. This position is structured to allow hiring at various levels based on experience, skill set, and certifications. Duties assigned and level of responsibility will vary accordingly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs maintenance, repair, and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection lines.
- Assists in locating, repairing, and replacing water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and sewer mains.
- Operates light and heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, jet/vac trucks, skid steers, trenchers, and service trucks.
- Perform lift station inspections and maintenance.
- Assists in operation and maintenance of water wells, treatment facilities, storage tanks, and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Conducts system flushing, valve exercising, hydrant maintenance, and sewer cleaning.
- Completes work orders as assigned.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and emergency response.
- Follows all safety procedures including confined space entry, trench safety, and traffic control.
- Assists other Public Works divisions as needed (streets, drainage, solid waste, or treatment).
- Provides courteous customer service to the public.
- Some “on call”, evening or weekend work will be required during urgent or emergency situations.
- Will work in inclement conditions and sometimes harsh environments.
- During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:
No supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in a related field.
- TCEQ Licensing in Water and Wastewater.
- Texas Commercial Driver License.
