Position Details
- Supporting the Assistant Vice President, the Assistant Director will manage daily operations of the Center’s medical and wellness clinic, ensure high-quality preventive services and coordinate clinical staff, patient workflows, and regulatory compliance. They will also assist with connecting community members to affordable care and support services.
- The Assistant Director will support community-based research and evaluation on housing and health, including data collection, IRB compliance, report preparation, and translating findings into actionable recommendations for community partners. The role also involves leading outreach and educational programs to address barriers such as housing insecurity and healthcare navigation.
- Supervising staff, student interns, and volunteers, the Assistant Director will help maintain an equity-focused environment aligned with the Center’s strategic goals. This position includes mentoring and teaching TSU students through experiential learning and clinical training, supporting the university’s public health workforce development.
- The Assistant Director may also assist with workshops, guest lectures, and service-learning activities related to social determinants of health.
- Create a university infrastructure, environment and culture inside the University that facilitates, encourages, inspires, nurtures, enhances and supports research, innovation, training and programs in Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement.
- Foster stakeholder and community engagement activities Research initiatives.
- Supports efforts to secure additional funding and maintain positive local, regional, provincial and federal partnerships with government and industry.
- Develop and maintain relationships with granting agencies, government ministries, regulatory bodies, community organizations, municipalities, and other post-secondary institutions
- Ensure compliance with all research administration requirements including legislative, ethics, regulatory, funding agency and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Knowledge of health disparity trends locally and across the greater Houston community.
- Knowledge of conflict of interest and ethics requirements, including federal research requirements.

- Budget management.
- At least 3–5 years of progressive experience in public health, health equity, urban health, or community-based program management.
- Experience working in an academic, healthcare, or nonprofit setting is preferred.
Student Engagement:
- Experience developing or supporting experiential learning programs, teaching, mentoring, or supervising students in academic or applied settings.
- Proven track record of working collaboratively with underserved communities, local agencies, or community-based organizations.
- Familiarity with community-based research, program evaluation, data collection, and IRB compliance.
- Routine office environment.
- Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
- Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects light weight may be required.
- Use of video display terminal.
