The Early Childhood Education Teacher is the lead teacher in a partial-day Early Childhood Education program for children in the Casa de Esperanza foster care Neighborhood program. This entails teaching a literacy based curriculum to promote school readiness and assessing children’s growth in the curriculum. The role may entail supervising a teacher’s aide and volunteers.
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time/Non-Exempt
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; teacher certification in Early Childhood Education preferred. Candidates with comparable work experience without certification will be considered. Texas Reading Academy Certification preferred
EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years experience teaching or implementing educational interventions required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• Empathy for the needs of children in care; awareness of how learning needs may be impacted by adverse childhood experiences
• Knowledge or early childhood development theory and practice with a specific emphasis on language, literacy development, and phonemics
• Ability to implement and assess success of an Early Childhood Education curriculum and adapt lesson plans and activities to specific learning needs
• Skill in effective communication with children and caregivers
• Ability to manage children in a classroom setting
• Familiarity with TEKS guidelines for Pre-K to ensure that the educational activities provided support school readiness

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead teacher in a part-day Early Childhood Education program for children in foster care in the Casa Neighborhood
• Develop and iImplement age-appropriate lesson plans
• Create a safe and stimulating classroom environment
• Engage children in individual and small group learning activities
• Supervise teacher’s aide (if number of children in program support it) and volunteers
• Monitor and assess children to identify learning needs, strengths, and weaknesses
• Complete Early Childhood Education curricular assessments; document, and communicate findings
• Other duties as assigned
