Position Summary

Responsible for overseeing the daily M&R / operations of an ISO container depot in the Heniff Depot Network in North America by ensuring the efficient handling, storage, repair, and maintenance of ISO containers used for the transportation of goods. The manager ensures that all activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements. This role involves leadership, operational management, customer service, and a strong focus on maintaining safety and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the depot, including container handling, inspections, repairs, cleaning, and storage.
  • Supervise and coordinate a team of mechanics, welders, forklift operators, and administrative staff, ensuring effective workflow and productivity.
  • Ensure that all containers are inspected, repaired, and maintained to meet regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, IMO, DOT) and customer specifications.
  • Monitor and improve operational processes, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of container movements, repairs, inspections, and any modifications performed within the depot.
  • Collaborate with customers, logistics companies, and shipping lines to ensure their requirements are met and resolve any service-related issues.
  • Oversee inventory control for spare parts, repair materials, and tools, ensuring availability for ongoing operations.
  • Assist in setting and meeting depot key performance indicators (KPIs), control expenses, and ensure profitability while maintaining high service quality.
  • Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections throughout the depot network to ensure compliance with industry standards and depot regulations.
  • Provide training and development for staff to ensure skill enhancement and adherence to operational standards.
  • Communicate with upper management on operational performance, challenges, and improvements needed, including reporting KPIs.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, operations management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, depot management, or container maintenance operations.
  • Proven experience managing teams in a fast-paced, industrial setting.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of ISO container handling, inspection, maintenance, and repair processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for container transport (ISO, IMO, DOT).
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in using depot management software and inventory control systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for interaction with staff, customers, and upper management.
  • Ability to manage budgets, analyze operational costs, and optimize processes.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and best practices.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Able to work outside in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to follow spoken and written instruction
  • Ability to safely perform all tasks and understand Company’s safety policies and procedures
  • Dependable transportation is required as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays)
  • Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass required Safety Council training examinations, and all pre-employment screenings i.e. drug screen

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel; reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch as needed.
  • May be required to lift 50 lbs.
