TxDOT's is looking for a Material/Process Inspector I, based in Humble, TX, for our North Harris Area Office (Lab).
We are seeking highly motivated individuals to perform material tests in laboratories, plants, roadways and at points of supply. This position will report to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work performed under this position.

Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
- Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Subject to hazards - moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
- Subject to atmospheric conditions - fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation
- Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids
- Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other devices
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Kneeling - bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
- Hearing - perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
- Close Visual Acuity - using measurement devices; and assembly or fabrication parts
