Position Details
- Provides one-on-one advising to at-risk students and students on academic probation, including any other students needing assistance.
- Offer skills-based instruction to law students in a variety of areas.
- In collaboration with the department head, teaches and manages one or more of the bar elective courses per semester.
- Designs and coordinates academic support tutorials.
- Provides administrative supervision for student tutors and OAS graduate assistants.
- Evaluates student-lead tutorial sessions and work of the OAS GAs in the tutorial lab and elsewhere.
- Manages student assistant time sheets and tracks time and effort forms.
- Performs statistical reporting on attendance and outcomes as requested.
- Assists with the planning of 1L workshops utilizing the adopted curriculum content.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify areas where academic remediation is needed and creates an effective outreach program to service students most in need.
- Performs statistical reporting on attendance and outcomes as requested.
- Delivers academic and degree plan advising to students; respond promptly to student requests. Is accessible to students during Law School operational hours and as needed evenings, weekends, and summers.
- Provides, administers, and grade practice exams and maintains records of students’ performances.
- Facilitates skills and/or bar readiness workshops as directed by the department dean.
- Performs statistical reporting on participation and performance indicators as requested.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of the 1L Orientation.
- Maintains department calendar and effectively communicates department events to students using electronic, social, and print media.
- Submits and monitors funding requests for Academic Support events.
- Identifies at-risk students to the Assistant Dean and implements a coaching/intervention plan. Monitors student academic performance and progress on intervention/coaching plan and recommends new or additional learning interventions tailored to student performance.
- Provides first-line management to department.
- Allocates resources according to priorities and within budget parameters.
- Consults with Dean of the Department (or the Department Leader) on operational issues including fiscal matters.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Sufficiently knowledgeable in the tested portions of the current bar examination administered in Texas.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student body.
- Strong oral presentation skills and ability to remediate complex legal rules.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work collaboratively with existing team.
- Excellent written communication and legal writing skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Senior Level Assistant Director requires three (3) years of law school academic support experience.
- Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
