    Primary Purpose:

    Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district. Distribute pertinent information about the district and its activities to employees. Maintain and build partnerships with businesses, organizations and community stakeholders.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
    Effective oral and written communication.

    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Proficient skills in writing, proofreading, and editing;
    Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
    Proficient skills in desktop publishing, word processing, and file maintenance;
    Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data;
    Personnel management experience
    Maintain positive relations between the district, the community, and media outlets;
    Demonstrate initiative in planning events and projects for the district;
    Ability to perform a variety of tasks;
    Ability to meet established deadlines;
    Ability to be on-call after hours as needed

    Technology Proficiency with the following software products:
    Microsoft, Adobe, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and other related digital media products

    Experience:
    Five years of experience in related field(s) required.
    Experience in school district communications and community engagement preferred.

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:


    • Direct and manage the district communications and community partnerships office.
    • Promote positive relations between the district, campuses, community, and business partners.
    • Prepare and provide information about the goals, activities, and policies of the district.
    • Lead crisis communication efforts, ensuring timely and transparent messaging during emergencies or sensitive situations.
    • Act as the Public Information Officer for Sheldon ISD, responding to Open Records Requests in accordance with the Public Information Act.
    • Serve as the district spokesperson, handling media relations and crisis communications in coordination with the Superintendent.
    • Serve as the liaison for the Superintendent in representing the district at community functions.
    • Lead, plan and host district-wide special events.
    • Oversee the district’s Partners in Education program and Families in Action volunteer program.
    • Serve as the Executive Director of the Sheldon ISD Education Foundation.
    • Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees, district-wide meetings/events, school-based meetings/events and community meetings/events to gather and disseminate information about the district
    • Help the superintendent develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.
    • Budget
    • Administers the Communications and Community Partnership Office budget and ensures that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
    • Compiles budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
    • Personnel Management
    • Develops training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of the public information function.
    • Evaluates job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
    • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and training of personnel and makes sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
    • Responsible for properly maintaining District records, adhering to all policies set forth by the District for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Policies & Budget
    • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the public information area.
    • Administer the public information budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are managed prudently.
    Personnel Management:
    Oversee the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of department staff or others assigned by the Superintendent.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Supervises and evaluates professional and support staff assigned to the Communications and Community Partnership Office.

    Equipment Used:
    Copier, computer, printer, camera(s), video camera, and fax machine.

    Working Conditions:
    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of the computer. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

    • Position cannot be performed remotely
    • Starting Salary: $109,854.00
    • Salary commensurate with experience
    Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 11/14/2025.
