Qualifications:

Master’s degree

Possess Principal/Mid-Management Certificate

Minimum of five years successful classroom experience

Demonstrated ability as an instructional leader

Certified teacher appraiser/T-TESS AEL Certified (or able to obtain certification)

Proven leadership skills

Assistant principal experience

Primary Purpose:

Assist the Principal with overall program planning, supervision, and evaluation for the school within the framework of the philosophy, goals, and policy established by the Board, within the policies and standards of regulatory agencies, and in accordance with administrative regulations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal with all aspects of the teaching/learning process including:

a. delivery and assessment of curriculum

b. development of master schedule

c. selection of highly qualified personnel

d. response to teacher, parent, & student concerns regarding grading/reporting practices

e. appraisal of teachers involving instructional observations and conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance

f. management of procedures related to instruction such as speaker approval, field trip approval, project approval, study hall, advisory structure

g. utilization of instructional staff and support services to maintain and improve the instructional program

2. Assist the Principal with maintaining school focus on district/campus goals through data-informed decision-making, including participating in writing and monitoring the Campus Improvement Plan and using the Katy ISD Accountability Plan.

3. Assist the Principal with overseeing state and federal accountability standards and PEIMS reporting.

4. Promote collaboration and professional learning:

a. foster attitudes/structures which promote professional dialogue/communication

b. assist principal with leadership of Department Chair team, CAT, horizontal alignment/curriculum team

c. coordinate efforts to assist new teachers including specialized learning seminars, mentors, etc.

5. Participate in programs, committees and interventions designed to enhance student success such as:

a. organize/oversee academic intervention programs and committees as determined by the principal

b. organize/oversee advanced academic programs as determined by the principal

6. Address operational issues related to the management of the campus as determined by the principal such as:

a. safety and security issues

b. building management

c. substitute employees

d. student random drug testing

7. Create and maintain a positive climate for students, staff, and community:

a. interact effectively with students to promote positive attitudes towards school programs

b. support a discipline management system that produces a productive campus environment

c. support, communicate and interpret District goals, policies, procedures, and directives to the staff under his/her direction and supervise their implementation.

d. Professionally communicate and interpret school goals, policies, procedures to various stakeholders

e. Maintain a positive image of the school by involving community members and agencies in a supportive role and by attending school functions

8. Assist in maintaining a safe, secure environment, including extra-curricular events; serve as campus leader in absence of the campus principal.

9. Communicate with parents, individually and collectively, on issues related to student success.

10. Exhibit and encourage high professional and ethical standards.

11. Maintain accurate and complete records of programs and projects for which s/he is responsible and punctually submit accurate reports as may be required by law, District policy, or administrative regulation.

12. Assist principal and administrative team as requested/assigned.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, copier, calculator.

Working Conditions:

Work with frequent interruptions, maintain poise/emotional control under stress. Occasional district wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Standing for long periods of time. High level of mobility around campus.
