Description:
1. Supervises the use of laboratory equipment and supplies; ensures equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
2. Supervises maintenance personnel and/or student workers assigned to the lab.
3. Repairs and/or modifies laboratory equipment, instruments and associated facilities.
4. Procures parts, tools and supplies for repairs and modifications.
5. Oversees the work of building maintenance personnel or outside contractors in the repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment and departmental facilities.
6. Trains staff and students in laboratory procedures and techniques.
7. Provides guidance to students, faculty and staff regarding the safe and proper operation of equipment and instruments; ensures safe working conditions in the laboratory.
8. Tests components, instruments and equipment.
9. Identifies and recommends purchases of new and replacement equipment and associated renovations to facilities.
10. Maintains inventory and orders lab supplies.
11. Conducts and maintains capital equipment inventory.
12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MQ:
Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Applied Physics or Material Science
Additional Job Information:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, or related discipline
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in electron microscopy
- Proficiency in sample preparation and instrument maintenance, including Scanning TEM, FIB-SEM cross-sectioning, and EDS/EDX analysis, strong background in microscopy imaging software and data analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external users
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
