ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

As an Assistant Controller, you will help lead our growing Accounting & Finance function. This role is responsible for overseeing an efficient, accurate month-end close; developing supplemental and operational reporting; building strong partnerships across business lines; and supporting the continued growth and professional development of the accounting team.

The Assistant Controller will play a crucial part in strengthening our financial processes while embodying Allied’s core values: Safety First, Integrity, Customer Focused, Humility, Ownership, and Teamwork. Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
  • Lead and manage the month-end close cycle to ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant reporting
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements prepared by the team
  • Streamline and enhance close processes with an ownership mindset focused on continuous improvement
  • Ensure consistent accounting treatment across Allied Fire Protection’s construction, service, inspections, monitoring, and recurring-revenue business units
  • Uphold the value of Integrity by ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, transparency, and compliance
Operational & Supplemental Reporting
  • Design and deliver analytical reports, dashboards, KPIs, and job-cost analyses that support leaders across all business lines
  • Collaborate with operations, service, and project management teams to build reporting that drives better decisions
  • Provide insights that strengthen forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Ensure data, KPIs and reporting processes reflect Allied’s commitment to operational excellence
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across departments, including operations, service, sales, project management, and corporate services
  • Serve as a key liaison between Accounting and other teams to ensure smooth communication and effective issue resolution
  • Promote Teamwork by encouraging cross-functional cooperation and shared accountability
  • Collaborate with IT and systems teams to improve ERP usage and financial visibility
Team Leadership & Development
  • Help build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting team that exemplifies Allied’s core values
  • Recruit, mentor, and coach team members with a spirit of Humility and commitment to growth
  • Create a culture of accountability, service, and collaboration.
  • Establish clear roles, processes, and expectations to support scalable growth
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Evaluate existing accounting workflows and develop improved processes that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
  • Support ERP enhancements, new system implementations, and process documentation
Reinforce Allied’s value of Ownership by proactively identifying solutions and driving meaningful improvements

Knowledge:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, job-cost accounting, and operational reporting.

Work Experience:
  • 5–8+ years of accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Experience in fire & life safety, construction, mechanical/electrical service, or other project-based industries preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (Viewpoint/Vista, Sage, Netsuite, etc.) and Excel/reporting tools
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-growing environment while modeling Allied’s values of Integrity, Humility, and Teamwork.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving process improvements and strengthening financial workflows
Physical Requirements

  • 100% Office Setting, including sitting, some bending, some lifting, walking and viewing
