WORK HOURS: Monday-Thursday 8am‐4pm/Friday 7:30am-12pm

Position Summary:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Senior Activity Center Assistant:
- Regular and timely attendance at work.
- Assist Senior Activity Coordinator with senior programs that include arts and crafts, exercise, educational and social luncheons.
- Assist in organizing special events and fundraisers.
- Will use excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the public.
- Monitor and report materials, supplies, and/or equipment needed for senior activities.
- Assist Senior Activity Coordinator initiate and implement policies and procedures.
- Help check building and equipment for needed repairs and unsafe or hazardous conditions.
- Help research and plan new activities.
- Help ensure all facets of senior luncheons are planned and executed.
- Help ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned and as required by the nature of the position.
- Will operate the Senior Bus to transport senior citizens to and from the Senior Activity Center for activities held at and organized through the Center and to various appointments and/or errands including doctor’s visits, hair appointments, banks, and shopping.
- Responsible for coordinating daily transportation routes and communicating information to Senior Center Coordinator.
- Prepares and organizes a daily transportation schedule to ensure the timely transportation of the senior citizens.
- Responsible for assisting senior passengers with safely boarding and exiting the bus, and help load and unload their groceries, particularly during inclement weather.
- Daily duties also include assisting passengers in wheelchairs onto the bus using the wheelchair lift and ensuring they are properly secured during transit.
- On a daily basis, prepares written transportation and pre-trip inspection reports for the bus that includes information on number of passengers and mileage for the day.
- Ensure the senior bus is cleaned and fueled at the end of the day.
- Reports any/all repairs or maintenance work needed to the bus to senior activity coordinator, as needed.
- Answers incoming cell phone calls and schedules bus passengers.
- Answers questions regarding programs or schedules coordinated through the Senior Activity Center.
- Ability to work some weekends or evening to assist in day trips or special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned and as required by the nature of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to efficiently carry out clerical responsibilities, such as documentation, recordkeeping, and administrative support.
- Knowledge of basic budgeting and purchasing applications.
- Knowledge of equipment use and various games, sports, and other recreational activities.
- Understanding of principles and techniques of planning and leading group recreational activities.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of computer applications relevant to administrative and operational tasks.
- Proficient in operating standard office equipment, including copiers, scanners, and related devices.
- Excellent organizational, document management, record-keeping skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, vendors, City staff, and management personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve concerns or complaints regarding the center and its programs in a timely and professional manner.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the street layout and geographic areas within the City of Humble.
- Must possess a friendly, approachable demeanor and demonstrate a caring, respectful attitude.
- Proficient in the safe and effective operation of tools and equipment utilized at the Senior Center.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to walk, sit, reach, stretch, bend, carry, push, and lift up to 50 lbs on occasion. Must also be able to stand for long periods in order to set‐up, breakdown, and decorate for special events.
- Job duties may involve repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to computer monitor.
- Working conditions include exposure to both indoor and outdoor conditions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish – Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in both languages.
- Three (3) years customer service experience.
- Must possess valid State of Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Must successfully pass background investigation, physical, and drug screen.
- Prior experience working with senior citizens in a professional or community setting, but not required.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within the first 6 months of employment.
- Experience driving bus or mini-van preferred, but not required.
