The Part-time Building Maintenance Technician will support the Associate Director of Facilities in the daily operation and maintenance needs of Houston Ballet Center for Dance and associated properties, located in downtown Houston .

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and performance of building systems, building structures, permanent interiors, furniture, appliances, other equipment, building grounds, and exterior elements. 
  • Perform daily, weekly, and/or monthly inspections of building to determine any preventive or corrective maintenance needed.  
  • Respond to and resolve general housekeeping issues needing immediate attention during scheduled hours.  May occasionally be asked to respond to after-hours facility-related emergencies and determine appropriate course of action to resolve issues.  
  • Report all major facility issues that are not immediately repairable to the Associate Director of Facilities.  
  • Manage inventories of supplies needed to maintain the building systems and equipment and maintain cleanliness and organization of workroom areas.  
  • Assist the Associate Director of Facilities with building space rentals and the set-up and breakdown of meetings and events.
  • Coordinate with vendors for service, inspections, and repairs.
  • Acts as a member of the Houston Ballet Safety Team, assisting with evacuation drills and coordination of safe working conditions in all facilities.
  • Assist in the timely completion or resolution of facility-related requests including office relocations and material moves to storage space.
  • Coordinate and, if necessary, handle deliveries at loading dock.
  • Recognize when a task falls outside of their skill level and requires the expertise of a licensed professional, such as an electrician, carpenter, HVAC/Refrigeration technician, plumber, etc.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of equivalent job experience in building maintenance and/or construction.
  • Experience and basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems.
  • Experience painting and patching sheetrock.
  • Experience replacing lamps and ballasts, using a lift if needed, and following all safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand architectural drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools, building systems equipment, handcarts, and other moving equipment. Tools and equipment will be provided.
  • Experience dealing with maintenance vendors.
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours building emergencies, when available.
  • Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to deal with exposure to hazardous chemicals (PPE is provided), if necessary.
  • Ability to deal with possible exposure to harsh weather conditions, if necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with varied personalities and many work styles.
  • Communicates effectively and can read and speak English

Additional Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Basic knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Spanish speaker.
