Reporting Location: Houston, Texas
Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In this position, you will work as part of the administrative support team for the Wastewater Regulatory Compliance Laboratory. Your duties will include:

  • Prepares and analyzes the annual budget and budget revisions; manages expenditures and monitors line-item balances. 
  • Assists in tracking and monitoring expenditures, including purchase orders, P-card, and contracts. 
  • Maintains database of staff compliance with mandatory training courses and licenses.
  • Maintains vehicle database with up-to-date information.
  • Assists with onboarding of new staff members and offboarding of departing staff members.
  • Assists in the coordination of staff services, such as personnel, purchasing, and office management.  
  • Assists with budget preparations, tracking, and management.
  • Assists with the implementation of basic City of Houston rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in day-to-day operations.  
  • Prepares periodic and special reports; compiles information and maintains department reference information.  
  • Assists in the preparation, submission, and tracking of travel, training, and membership requests for laboratory personnel.  
  • Maintains records and other vital information. 
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee information and ensures that they are only available to authorized persons.
  • Performs other duties as requested. .

Working Conditions 
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.  There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. 

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Political Science, Psychology or a closely related field.  
  
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three years of experience in personnel, administration, accounting or a closely related field are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None 

PREFERENCES

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, Procurement, Contract Management, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and organization skills.
