CITY OF HOUSTON ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE REHIRE OF
HOUSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER / EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN 
FOR THE POSITION OF 
FIREFIGHTER 
 
Exciting things are happening at the Houston Fire Department (HFD) and this is a phenomenal opportunity for former HFD Classified members to rejoin the team.
Eligible to Apply:

  • Former HFD Classified Members - Certified Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

       1.  Must have obtained the rank of Firefighter as a HFD Classified member
       2. An Active/Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Certification AND
       3. An Active/Current Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Certification

DUTIES:

  • Re-acclimation training (5 Weeks) - participates in lectures, seminars, and practical training sessions.
  • Receives and participates in various types of training in fire suppression and emergency medical services.
  • Participates in drills, demonstrations and instruction in hydraulics, pump operation, maintenance, fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Immunizations/shot records will be required prior to job offer. 
  2. Texas Commission of Fire Protection State Fire Fighters Certification and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Emergency Medical Technician Certification(s), minimum EMT Basic, will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department. 
  3. Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technicians Certification as a Paramedic will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department. 
  4. Applicants must successfully complete all phases of the hiring process (fingerprints, motor vehicle report,  physical ability test, interview, background, immunizations, drug screen, medical examination).
  5. HFD reserves the right to discontinue consideration in the hiring process based on an applicant’s conduct or verification of certain disqualifying factors.  
  6. Must not have ever been convicted of or received community supervision for a Felony or a Class A Misdemeanor.
