Overview:
The Post Oak Hotel is seeking a Cook I to join the only Forbes Five-Star Hotel in Texas. We hire passionate and professional colleagues who genuinely delight our guests through curated and authentic experiences.
The Cook I will be responsible for, but not limited to, assisting the Chef and Sous Chef(s) in the preparation, organization and execution of all meals periods, will focus on sautee sation and will serve as a liason between the Sous Chefs and line cooks II& III.
Responsibilities:
  • Complete job requirements in the absence of Sous Chef(s) & Chef de Cuisine. The Cook I will report directly to the Sous Chef(s) and Chef De Cuisine and will be responsaible for assiting cook II & Cook III
  • Participate actively in kitchen activities (specials, menu changes, rules enforcement) by leading by example and delivering the best supporting management vision.
  • Set assigned station(s) with the determined amount of preparation needed in a timely manner following prep list needs
  • Ensure kitchen compliance and work in a safe manner following Texas sanitation guidelines, rules and regulations while ensuring adherence to quality expectations and standards
  • Follow safe work habits when working with kitchen equipment such as knives, slicer, ovens, stoves, food processors, etc.
  • Keep workstation clean and organized at all times while keeping the station stocked for the next shift
  • Properly store food at appropriate temperatures while maintaining accurate food inventories
  • Proficient in food allergies and knowledgeable of food preparations for special meal requirements
  • Ensure proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish. Maintain food logs. Monitor the quality and quantity of food that is prepared.
Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience working in a high-volume kitchen
  • Well-rounded in all areas of the kitchen including cooking techniques, knife skills and product knowledge
  • Previous hotel experience, luxury or Forbes experience preferred
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays is required
  • Physical demands:
    • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform repetitive motions frequently for 8-12 hours a day
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50-100 lbs
