POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for supporting corporate Legal management. The Intern, under close supervision, will perform a variety of entry-level legal tasks and special projects while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists Counsel for the Concrete division of the Company with legal initiatives and programs.
- Reviews contracts and identifies legal issues as directed by Counsel for concrete.
- Conducts legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and articles.
- Prepares drafts of legal documents such as correspondence, reports, and memos summarizing research findings.
- Supports the contract lifecycle, which includes assisting in the drafting, review, and revision of various legal documents, including contracts and policies.
- Identifies and analyzes potential legal risks to the Company and helps develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Assists with disputes the Company is involved in, which may include gathering and organizing documents, drafting responses to discovery requests, assistance with eDiscovery, and coordinating with outside counsel.
- Helping to ensure the Company complies with relevant laws and regulations, researches compliance requirements, assists with internal audits, and supports the implementation of compliance.
- Assists project management teams with miscellaneous legal tasks.
- Interacts with project management and business management in a cordial and respectful manner.
- Performs clerical duties, such as photocopying, scanning, running document comparisons in Adobe, and organizing documents. Interns might manage calendars and schedule meetings.
- Observes meetings with counterparty, partners, internal meetings, and meetings with outside counsel.
- Supports the preparation and delivery of legal training sessions for the Company employees.
- Provides support for Counsel for the Concrete division.
- Works closely with different departments to provide legal support in a variety of areas.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality of all Company, confidential, and/or proprietary information obtained as a result of the internship.
- Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety.

- Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.

- Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Individual in this position must be enrolled in college or university and work experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position. Individual must have computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The position also requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to employees at all levels of the organization.
The incumbent must be well organized and a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be flexible and able to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities and prioritize work to accommodate those changes.
The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. In addition, lifting and carrying objects up to 10 lbs. may be required on occasion.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
